ACTUALITIES

Eila was awarded the honour of "Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland" on February 13th 2003 by the Finnish President Tarja Halonen, for her lifelong contribution for the Finnish culture in Brazil. The diploma and the honor medal were awarded to Eila in Penedo, in her residence, by the Finnish ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Hannu Uusi-Videnoja.


  WHO IS EILA

In 1929 Penedo was founded in Brazil. It was a small finnish colony, to where Eila, then in the age of 13, moved with her parents. This community of immigrants, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, is nowadays a prospering tourist village, where Eila still lives. Now with 86 years, she continues with her art, the tapestries and paintings, and she is certainly the most important and well-known finnish person in Brazil.

Eila's atelier is located in Penedo, and her artistic source of inspiration has always been brazilian colorful and generous nature. She has also presented her tapestries in Japan, USA, Sweden and Finland.
